[Taoyaka Program]Admission Information Session

TAOYAKA Program for creating a flexible, enduring, peaceful society will hold information session for those who are interested in April 2016 (Second admission)/ Octoberl 2016 Admissions.

■Venue: Graduate School for International Development and cooperation (IDEC), Hiroshima University Access

The information session can be joined via Television Conference System at Hiroshima University Tokyo Office Campus innovation Center (Room#408) Access

Taoyaka program offers interdisciplinary educational opportunities to develop young global leaders who can contribute to realization of multicultural coexistence. A wide range of interdisciplinary course work on campus is intergrated with intensive on-site experience in disadvantaged areas in both developed and developing countries, with special emphasis in improving lives by deeply understanding the regional societies and cultuers, developing proper technologies and implementing these to resolve problems that disadvantaged regions confront while working closely with the regions. Students can recieve degrees by taking courses taught in English.

■ Title: Amalgamating social entrepreneurship with imported technologies for community development in disadvantaged regions of Nepal

■ Background

Dr. Pun is a prominent figure in Nepal in the field of rural entrepreneurship. His contribution in improving access of the residents residing in disadvantaged regions of Nepal to distance learning, health, market information, and communication by providing ICT through the use of locally available resources is widely recognized by several reputed national/international organizations. In this seminar, he will share how such technologies have opened the windows of opportunity for the residents and helped in developing rural entrepreneurship. Besides, he will also cover his motivation to work in such region as a ‘community worker’. Lastly, he will also share about some of the projects he is working on along with its fund management and long term dreams to bring the benefit of technologies in rural areas and to help Nepal become an economically developed country.

TAOYAKA Program held Opening Ceremony

 

The opening ceremony 2015 for the Taoyaka Program for creating a flexible, enduring, and peaceful society was held on Friday, April 3rd, , and was performed in English. The number of students who were accepted to the Taoyaka program in this year was eight with different educational, professional and cultural backgrounds. The country of origin and the number of the students are as follows: Japan (2), Bangladesh (1), Nepal (1), India (1), Vietnam (1), China (1), and Costa Rica (1). This program has established at Hiroshima University in 2014 and entered its second year.

The vice president of Hiroshima University, Dr. Masaki Sakakoshi, gave the opening address to congratulate and encourage the newly-enrolled students: “Students who accepted and began this program today have distinguished educational and career backgrounds in various fields. I am expecting all of you to work hard in order to become an exceptional global leader and work internationally after the completion of the five-year program. We want you to be successful. We are happily to provide you with full support in both academically and financially. We believe that our support will help you to manage your daily life better in order to devote yourself to your studies and research.”

The purpose of the Taoyaka Program is to cultivate students in becoming global leaders who can contribute to global communities, including Japan, facing different types of issues and problems. Within the five years of doctoral program, students have an opportunity to visit and work closely with people in the region where they choose and research in order to understand deeply their current situations and needs of these regional societies and cultures. The students in the program are expected to develop technological, social, and cultural projects that will help resolve and support these concerns in these communities.
