Career and Academic Background before TAOYAKA Program
I graduated with a Bachelor degree in Transport management and planning from The Hanoi University of Transportation and Communication in Vietnam in 2010. After that, I had nearly 2 years working as a teaching assistant in my University. During that time, I also worked as a transport consultant and researcher in Transport Consulting Center (TRANCONCEN). I joined in some projects of developing transport system in the rural areas in Vietnam. In the end of 2012, I got an acceptance of the Master program of Vietnamese-German University which was established on the base of the collaborative relationship between Vietnam and Germany in education. In 2015, I did complete master course in Traffic and Transport under the support of Darmstadt Technical University (Germany). I came back to my hometown and continued my work in the company of Sustainable Urban Development. In a short time, I had a chance to participate in the traffic safety research project for motorcyclists in northern mountain and midland area (Thai Nguyen, Vietnam) sponsored by Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers and National Traffic Safety Committee. However, I would like to continue my education towards the doctoral degree. I learned more technical solutions of the Japanese in transport improvement for their disadvantageous areas. This desire got me interested in coming back to academics, so I applied for a student in Hiroshima University.
Research Plan in TAOYAKA Program
Parking facility is necessary for vehicular trips at origins and destinations. It has a big impact on the economic and social attractiveness of the regions, including the vitality of the disadvantaged communities. In motorcycle dependent cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Bangkok, Taipei, etc. with a rate of motorcycle use of more than 80%, there are many small and narrow areas accessed only by motorbikes. They are also disadvantaged communities when getting difficulties in economic and social activity development. Under the high population concentration and motorcycle ownership, but having the limited fund and land shortage, these regions have been facing the lack of parking facilities. Their attractiveness got worse off. The situation resulted in illegal parking behaviors as well. It had negative impacts on internal transportation, even on external transportation in surrounding regions. As a consequence, it increased traffic congestions, traffic accidents, environmental pollution on the whole road network. The objective of this study is to understand what parking characteristics are, what main factors are and how they influence on parking situation, especially for non-permitted parking activities, what effective measures should be used to limit parking violations, what orientations for parking development, management and planning are outlined in the motorcycle dependent cities.
Career Plan after TAOYAKA Program
Being one of the TAOYAKA students, I have the great chance to learn from not only excellent professors but also my precious colleagues. After graduation, I want go back to Vietnam. I wish to apply the range of skills and knowledge to deal with multicultural coexistence issues and the sustainable development for my country. Also I want to be a bridge between Vietnam and other foreign countries. Therefore, I wish to remain the nice relationships with my international friends over time. For my long-term plans, I hope to get a formal position at my former university or other institutions where I can do scientific research, and also try my hand at teaching.
